AllSaints for Petites Pt. 2: The Balfern Jacket

I haven’t posted in so long! I thought I would kinda call it quits with fashion blogging and focus more on advancing my career. However, I noticed how popular my last AllSaints post was, and I thought I’d give an update. Especially now that I own one of their infamous leather jackets!

Ahh! I’m still excited to have this jacket. It’s like I never knew what real leather felt like until now. First of all, I still can’t believe I went with a non-black jacket. Second, I can’t believe I went with pink. The “Dusty Pink” color a bit more corally but still a muted version. The color pops but not too bright to draw the right attention. While I am still in love with the prettiness of the jacket, I’ll give the honest of reviews about the fit and fabric.

AllSaints jackets are an investment. They are known for their quality and the hefty price tag. I bought the AllSaints Balfern style which is their most popular jacket. After the dusty pink jacket sold out on AllSaints, I searched high and dry until I found the last size 2 at Yoox for more than 50% off (what a steal). I typically would wear a size 00, which unfortunately sold out, but decided to take a chance on size 2.

I styled this in the most classic biker style ever, ripped jeans and all. All black always fits the leather jacket look, and the pink is even more pronounced. With the ripped jeans, I added a striped tee and pointy black Chelsea boots. The only twist is the french, not that’s a part of my stripe tee, a detail that can also be recreated with a black bandana.

The Fit

Firstly, this is the softest leather ever and feels great on your skin. With all the hardware on this jacket, you’d think it be pretty heavy. It’s actually pretty light even and comfortable to wear, even with all the metal. With such soft leather, you’ll expect it to mold to your body through wear, and also crease more easily. This is 100% lambskin and has the great smell of it too.

The Balfern has a more boxy shape to offset a belted look, for a more structured style. The length is great, not too cropped, and not too bulky. It’s probably a bit more cropped for average height folks, but size 2 perfectly hits a little below the hip for me. I believe my actual size 00 would hit at my hip.

With the sleeves, I expected them to be longer and looser since I went with a size or two larger. The sleeves were not too long but were wider than I expected. With the boxy shoulders and the sleeves being broader on me, it wasn’t wholly the ideal look. However, with more space in the sleeves, I can wear bulky sweaters underneath. The 00 would be more fitted, and the sleeves would be tighter.

Overall, I do love the fit and love how easy to wear it is. Sometimes leather jackets can be stiff and get uncomfy after a while, but the AllSaints Balfern fits like a glove (mostly for me). I do wish it was a size 00, but the size 2 wasn’t a bad oversized and proved to be more fitted than expected. I’d eventually love to get the classic black jacket, and that save the review for in a year or two.
